Viktoria Verde, PhD
Hi, I’m Viktoria.
I’m so glad you’re here.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by languages, not just as words and grammar, but as living bridges between people, cultures, and minds.
I hold a PhD in Linguistics, where I studied the relationship between language aptitude and creativity.
I’m also a polyglot, and I’ve seen firsthand both the joys and the struggles learners face.
I come from Belarus, where my mother tongues are Russian and Belarusian, and over the years I’ve learned English, Swedish, Polish, Spanish, German, and Italian.
Today, I live in Sweden and teach English and Swedish to adults while continuing my lifelong journey as a language learner.
I’m a mom to two beautiful children — an amazing five-year-old girl and a cute ten-month-old boy. Motherhood is both the greatest challenge and the greatest gift of my life, and I treasure it alongside my writing and teaching.
Beyond linguistics and teaching, I find inspiration in yoga, meditation, and long walks in nature, where many of my ideas for writing are born. That’s also where I get the space to reflect on learning, life, and the bigger questions that shape who we are. Over the past 20 years, I’ve taught and researched languages, and more recently, I’ve begun writing about the science of language learning in a simple, practical, and accessible way for everyone.
I bring together insights from linguistics, cognitive science, and psychology, exploring how the mind works, how the brain learns, and how the whole human being participates in the process of language learning.
